Isn't it shameful that the MPs, who are being given so much of our money every month whilst 40% of the population lives below poverty line, are totally irresponsible and show total indifference to the national priorities of the people whom they are representing?
It seems that out of all the crucial and urgent issues that our country faces and need to be urgently addressed, the top most priority for the country at the moment is to secure all sorts of luxuries for former presidents! (The bill in the parliament assigns from our money a totally outrageous sum every month to former presidents and prevents them from being prosecuted if they were not charged whilst in power).
If this is the most important thing that some of these MPs think that needs to be given topmost priority, then it is not just shameful, but totally pathetic that they have the audacity to do that!
The public needs to become fully aware of the political 'games' that are being played at the expense of our public and national interests. Without an informed public there is not much hope for a 'cleaner' democracy being established in our country...!

Not former presidents. the former president. Its daylight robbery.
Indeed! It is simply despicable!
What a bunch of clowns we've put there...the majority of whom represent just one person! It is so pathetic...an insult to our nation.
It is every citizens' right to see if former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is paid well and lives happily with state provided amneties. The reason is simple. We saw how the Maldives was when he became the President in 1978. He has transformed the Maldives to see what itis today with prosperity, tall bulidings, motor cars, wave bikes, etc. He has educated thousands even in far remote islands and he has paved all the roads, streets of Male'. He has opened hospitals, money was aplenty. People can enjoy well. Many a Maldives especially people belonging to Male' must witness this and must tribute him for what he has done. No other President can deliver that much. Wish him well.
To "Anonymous": So that means this bill is specifically tailored to suit the 'grandeur' of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom? That is even more pathetic and disgusting! Don't you even bother to ponder what the ramifications of passing this bill would be? Don't you also give the slightest of importance to the well-beign of the people of this country? People like you (who are by the way so coward to stay anonymous) are such a disgrace to this nation! Shame on you!
I agree, it's frustrating and utterly despicable. It's even more disgusting to see the way our former President actually appearing to enjoy all this. As always, he's making his minions do the dirty work for him. The anonymous comment summed up everything about his supporters, really. I think Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom should be rather content with everything he's managed to acquire over the last three decades, don't you think? Even without all the "state provided amnesties" which his cronies are so desperate to give him. He's said so in many of the madhahas he has written, about how life on this world is merely an illusion, and how everything here is temporary...
He has to be up there with the biggest bunch of hypocrites. Sometimes I just couldn't help but compare him with the likes of Kim Il-sung...
