The Maldives is about to achieve an important milestone in its road to meaningful democracy and good governance. The first every multiparty parliamentary elections is due to take part on 9th of this month. An election that could potentially change the Maldives, forever - for good or for worse…
As I understand, there are heated debates going on regarding which candidates should win the 77 seats, which party should get the majority and win the elections. I believe that the real winner of this historic election must be none other than…the Maldivian people!
The people of the Maldives, the general public, must take this opportunity to exercise their social and religious responsibility to the best of their abilities; so that the future generations would be inheriting a nation that is better than that of today!
We, the common Maldivian, have the responsibility to elect the most able and trustworthy persons to the extremely responsible job of representing us in the parliament and making laws that would define the future of this country.
As such, it is extremely important that we make an informed and unbiased judgement in selecting the candidate to vote for. Social and economic status quo, family ties, friendship, party or business alignments, sense of revenge, personal prejudices etc should not be allowed to influence, in any way, in choosing the best candidate for the job. In contrary, a choice has to be made based on merit. The most capable, trustworthy and responsible person should be preferred from amongst the list of candidates, bearing in mind also that there will not be any ideal candidate!
If we do this, if we remember we have this undeniable responsibility, and exercise the responsibility to the best of our ability and then put our trust in God Almighty, then for sure, it is us who are the real winners of this historic milestone!

Yes we all have the responsibility. But the media have failed the public in not taking the candidates to the task when the opportunity was there. I am talking of the silly questions the TVM 'debate' asks.
Maybe some real questions might have been more useful to the public.
'....trust in God Almighty, then for sure, it is us who are the real winners of this historic milestone! '
EH? majority of the maldivians remember/trust/think of 'God Almighty' only in fridays between 12am to 1:15pm.
and stop pointing fingers at others for the lack of info and media bullshits ask yourself, think yourself whats wrong and whats not?
Now lets see if any of the MPs have the guts to send a 'majleehuge memberun sizah kandaalaa bill'.This bill should reduce the salary of MPs,they sould be denied a red passport and remove all sorts of immunity and bring them to the ground level.
I think this election showed that Anni's and MDP's popularity has somewhat being reduced over the course of just six months. In fact it appears that DRP is now gaining ground.
I wonder whether this has anything to do with various premature comments made by Anni over the last few months.
I'm still completely against DRP-PA as it would only bring us back to autocratic rule. But MDP now has to attend to all the negative criticisms it has been receiving recently. They'd be stupid not to, especially when they've got the upper-hand.
What happened to our Adhaalath friends ?
Adhaalath party has a direct hotline with God.They can tell you exactly when God is going to punish you and for what reason. So I think they can explain why Adhaalath didnt win a seat ? Is it a punishment from God ? If so,for what ?
Are you making fun of Adhaalath or God or both?
Adhaalath party has claimed that they know the reason why Maumoonu didnt win the presidential election. So,can they explain why they didnt win a seat?
You'd have to pose that question to them.
Insult Adhaalath but don't go about saying things like they operate 'a direct line with God'. I know you're trying to insult Adhaalath, but what you didn't realise is that you are also making fun of your Creator.
It's fine to criticise and express your views on various issues. You could have stated what you wanted to say more elegantly (perhaps just state that Maldivians do not support Adhaalath, which would've served your purpose).
What is there for you to gain by insulting others? It does show a bit about your personality though.
Wow.Criticising the wrong actions and statements of Adhaalath equals making fun of Creator? Hmm.Have'nt I said enough how Adhaalath Wahabees love scholar worshipping and expect the same sort of reverence from others ?
About the 'hotline' issue, that is the implications of the statements uttered/written by Adhaalath in their own official website.Today if someone wants to make ganjaa legal,he would not say 'hey lets make ganjaa legal' but rather he would say 'you know,it is unreasonable for human beings to be sane for 24 hours'.The implication is that ganjaa need to be legalised.
Since Sheikh Ilyas has the habit of screaming meccan verses(Meccan verses are those verses of the Quran which builds the foundation of belief, they did not address prayer,voting,fasting..etc),I scanned the translation of Quran for the word 'losers' and here's what I found:
'whoever takes the Shaitan for a guardian rather than Allah he indeed shall suffer a manifest loss'
'And indeed, if you obey a mortal like yourselves, you will surely be the losers! [23:34]'
Whom Allah keeps astray (according to His Laws) is the loser [7:178]
those who deny Allah’s Revelations will be the losers [10:95]
Now I know very well these verses are not talking about 'losing in the election'.But this was the approach of Sheikh Ilyas in all of his screams.Simply screaming out Meccan verses or verses related to Aqeedah and hurling at others.
You've misread my earlier comment. I did not say insulting Adhaalath equals insulting the Creator. I wrote that you can criticise others but don't do it at the expense of God/religion.
I do not see the point of insulting others and making derogatory comments about them. It just shows that you want to defame and expose others. Rather you can criticise them politely with the intention of correcting them.
We observe such hypocritical behaviour amongst our politicians. They are quick to point out others' faults, not because they have any intention of correcting the person but they want to gain either political popularity or to expose others.
A good politician (or anyone really) is someone who's liked because of his own actions and deeds, not because he was quick in finding the shortcomings of others.
We need to get rid of this mentality of ours where everything is 'us against them'.
According to Adhaalath, they represented Islam. The people in the constituencies where Adhaalath contested rejected Adhaalath candidates.Since Adhaalath party is about Islam,by rejecting Adhaalath candidates, the people in these constituencies rejected Islam.Hence they have become unbelievers. And ofcourse all unbelievers have to be killed.
This is the typical wahabi thought process.
I guess,in the next Adhaalath meeting, the great vocalist will scream some Mecci verses about 'unbelievers and rejecters'
@ anon: 7:51
Why are you so afraid of Adhaalat?
The Anonymous at 07:51 has claimed a number of things in his posts, all of which he failed to provide any evidence for.
Such people will always try to use whatever means possible to spread falsehood and conspiracy.
Fortunately, most people won't take him seriously.
We however do have to agree that a lot of Maldivians do not like Adhaalath (even the so-called practicising Muslims). This is an issue that needs to be addressed.
The adherents of 'anneh raajjey' dont require evidence. They only care about the voice quality and who shouts the loudest. In this 'anneh raajje' a person can take a loan and put the blame on name plate of the company.Yet we have an islamic ministry who are silent about this.
The last commenter accuses me of not producing evidence while he did not produce a single evidence to refute my statements.Just making a statement 'fortunately, most people wont take him seriously' - where is the evidence for this? Did you ask 'most of the people'?
And the other commenter asks me if I am afraid of Adhaalath.Again,a clever tactic to divert from the topic.
Another asks me what do I gain by writing. As if every action we do have to be linked to monetary benefit.
And even if 'most of the people' dont take him seriously, that does not change the truth.
The Qur’aan Majeed says:
“If you follow the majority on earth, they will lead you astray, away from the Path of Allah. They (the majority of people) follow nothing but baseless conjecture, and they do nothing but plunge into guesswork.”
(Surah An’aam, Aayat 116)
Anyway, anyone interested more in learning about Mohamed Ibn Wahhab's teaching can read the novels of Jean Sasson. Now some guys will come down hard on me for relying on a book written by kaafir.Well,if a kaafir says Muslims pray five times a day,he/she is right.
'Princess Sultana' contains many of the points I have talked about here in the forum. When reading the novel, keep in mind that Islam should not be judged by how Muslims behave. But simply focus on the shallow thinking thats prevalent in this Saudi Arabia as a result of Wahab's teachings.

By definition Orthodox/mainstream Muslims are people who believe in the Sunnah (whether they follow it or not). Hence the reason why most people won't take a person discrediting the Sunnah seriously. Proving this majority is like proving whether the majority of Muslims are Orthodox.
Even though majority of Muslims believe in the Sunnah, it's only a very small minority that actually practices Islam according to the Sunnah. Hence the meaning in the Ayat you posted.
This isn't something for which I need to show any evidence, since it's glaringly obvious to anyone who's spent more than a day in Male'.
But me making this claim is not in anyway equivalent to all the conspiracy theories you've come up with.
Let me list just a few
- Comment about direct hotline with God
- Whahhaabees love scholar worshipping
- Making ganjaa legal by making absurd claims
Can you please provide any evidence for these?
If anyone is really interested in learning Wahhab's teaching then they need to look at his writings, other scholars who've written on the same topic as well as what other authors, historians have to say about him. Learn the teachings of the 4 notable Imams and how it links with what Wahhab taught. Furthermore, read the Quran, learn what it says about following the prophet (SAW). Read what the disbelievers say about him and then make up your own mind based on what you think is the most reasonable, logical.
The problem is that our personal whims and desires take over what's sensible and logical. Hence why we hear some people claiming that there's no such thing as the Sunnah and they will never follow it.
